Last month, three acute hospital trusts in our region declared critical incidents due to extreme A&E pressures following the Christmas and New Year period.
Thanks to significant efforts and a coordinated response from partners, these critical incidents have since been stood down.
Nevertheless, we continue to face high levels of demand across the system, and our priority over the coming weeks is to reduce A&E waiting times and ambulance response times.
Improving these metrics will help ensure quality of care and the safety of our patients, which remain paramount.
You can continue to play your part by coming forward for care when you need it, using NHS 111 online if you’re not sure what to do, and only ringing 999 or attending A&E if it is life-threatening.
With winter coming to a close, the seasonal COVID-19 vaccination offer has ended. However you can still get your flu vaccination if you’re eligible before the end of March, to help keep you and your loved ones safe.
Finally, February is LGBT+ History Month. There are a number of local events and exhibitions taking place to celebrate the rich history of our LGBT+ communities, and I would encourage you to get involved.
